The Muslim wedding also called the Nikah ceremony, is among the most important events in Islam because getting married is a Prophetic tradition.
With more than 1.9 billion Muslims in the world, wedding traditions can vary a lot from family to family, sect to sect, and culture to culture. However, the Nikah ceremony and tying the knot as a Muslim are always the same at their core.
Traditionally, a Nikah marriage takes place at the beach, and the Imam is in charge of the ceremony. We help our couples set up the date and time for the Nikah and invite family and friends to attend.

What does Nikah Ceremony mean?
The Nikah is a religious ceremony that is required by Islamic law for a Muslim couple to be legally married. It’s a tradition from the prophets and the only way a man and a woman can get married.
This ceremony makes the marriage official because, according to Islamic law, a couple can’t get close without a Nikah. When the couple says, “I accept,” the Nikah gives God permission for them to be together.
What’s needed for a Nikah Ceremony?
The marriage Proposal
Like any other marriage, the Nikah process has to start with a proposal. Either the man or the woman can propose marriage as long as the goal is to get married. In many cultures, it is more common for the man to propose, but in Islam, the woman or her family can do so.
The Acceptance – Qubool
The Qubool is saying “yes” to the proposal, but you don’t have to say “yes” right away. In the time between the initial proposal and the final acceptance, the couple can meet as often as they want to get to know each other, as long as they do it in public or close to a chaperone.
We provide two Witnesses
For the Nikah, we provide two male witnesses who can say that the bride and groom say “I do” or “Qubool” of their own free choice and not because their families or anyone else forced them to. The bride and groom must both agree.
The Mahr, also called Dowry
The Mahr is a gift that the groom has to give to the bride. The bride or her family may ask for it. Most of the time, the bride chooses a lump sum of money. Sometimes, the bride might want a trip, gold, or anything else.
Of course, she is told to be fair and think about how much her future husband makes. The Mahr is also a symbol of the man’s duty to take care of and provide for his wife.
Wali – the bride’s Father
The father of the bride is called “Wali”. He is the one who “gives” his daughter away. If the father can’t come to Seychelles, he has to give written permission that his daughter can get married. In case the father is deceased, another male guardian or a family member has to provide written consent to the marriage.
Once all the criteria are met, anyone can perform the Nikah ceremony. The bride and groom say “qubool”, which means “I accept.” Then, the couple and the two male witnesses sign the contract, which makes the marriage legal under religious law.

Is a Muslim marriage legal?
In Islam, a person should get married the right way, which includes both the religious ceremony and the legal requirements of the land. However, some Muslims don’t care as much about the legal requirements as they do about religious ceremonies.
But Muslims who don’t register their marriages put their wives and children in danger, and the laws of non-Muslim countries don’t recognize their children as real. No Muslim should want to put his wife and children in this kind of trouble.
In Islam, marriages are not seen as “made in heaven” or as being between “soul-mates” who were meant to be together. They are also not seen as sacraments. They are social contracts that give both parties rights and responsibilities. They can only work if both people respect and value them.
When these kinds of agreements are broken, either party can ask for a divorce. “Till death do us part” does not mean that a couple will stay together forever. Islam is based on reality, and it knows that many marriages don’t work out and end for many different reasons.
But most people get married with the best of intentions, and Muslims think that being married is the best way to live. Celibacy is not a good idea because it can cause a lot of mental and physical stress and problems. Muslims are not allowed to have sexual relationships outside of marriage. This includes both gay and straight relationships.
So, people who are getting married should do everything they can to make their partner happy and satisfied in every way. Muslims who really follow the rules can only have one sexual partner in their whole lives. In some Muslim communities, divorce is common and often accepted, but in others, it is strongly frowned upon, making it hard for divorced women to find a new partner.
In Islam, it’s a good thing if women can be cared for, so everyone should try to find them good husbands as much as possible. Many Muslim marriages are very happy, even if the couple has never met before the wedding.
This is because they trust their parents to set them up with the right person. But it is recommended that people who want to get married meet and have a guardian or wali ask questions about the other person in a quiet way to find out if the marriage has a good chance of working.
